Owwww…darlings dreams do come true! One of my new year resolutions is to photograph women in every country I will travel to this year. And hubby and I, we plan to travel.
For that reason I’m even more delighted and grateful that this important project for me as a portrait photographer has started to blossom.
During our holidays in Norway in Vardø I met many incredible inspiring beautiful people. Ylva was one of them. And it’s thanks to her that my dream of photographing Norwegian beauty came true. To make it happen we had to shoot in the evening, it was very dark and extremely cold.
Ylva handled it so bravely. She is such a beautiful, full of strength and grace sweetheart. I’m so happy that we met.
Let me present to you and share a story of “She wolf…”
We came to dance… we came to give voice to the souls that have been lost… We came to celebrate death, we came to celebrate life…
We came to celebrate light even in the darkest of places.
As I was traveling with my blue dress and the middle age flavored green cape, the Steilneset Memorial seemed like the perfect place as a location for our photo session. It’s a unique place in Vardo with its own stories to tell.
The Steilneset Memorial is a monument that’s commemorating the trial and execution in the seventeenth century of 91 people for witchcraft. It was designed by artist Louise Bourgeois and architect Peter Zumthor and was opened in 2011.
From the moment I heard of this place, I wanted to capture it’s essence. I wanted to honor and capture its soulful dance, between pain, devastating stories of so many lost souls… stated with presence of beauty and grace that is part of this somehow beautifully magical graceful place.
My goal was to surrender the symbolism of burning and aggression with softness of soulful dance of light, love and connected presence.
“Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
Ylva, whose name means “She-wolf“, {yes I know, it’s so magically fitting} was the one who helped me in my journey.
Even during a break to warm up, Ylva looked so amazingly beautiful while keeping her gentle gaze. We both had to pay for every frame, as it was so terribly dark and cold, but at the end it was all worth it. Just look at this amazing girl. I was so proud of her … and I still am.
She was the grace, kindness … gentleness of the soul… she was the strength! Ylva … the she wolf! The beauty with her roots strongly tangled with with the spirit of her land.
What an honor to be able to capture even a glance of her being in this symbolic place.
Norway marked me for ever …. grace, love and kindness have touched my soul. It is one of those places where I found the peaceful feeling of being home.
